BBVA COMPASS BOWL TO HONOR COACH JACK CROWE AS GOLDEN FLAKE LEGEND OF BIRMINGHAM
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Former Jacksonville State head coach and long-time Auburn University assistant Jack Crowe will be honored as the Golden Flake Legend of Birmingham recipient at the Monday Morning Quarterback Club Team Luncheon presented by Sheraton Birmingham.
A native of Birmingham, Crowe has coached more than 37 years at some of the top programs in the country. During his career, he has worked at Auburn, Baylor, Arkansas, Clemson and Wyoming on the Division I-A level and most recently Jacksonville State. Coach Crowe also has college coaching stints at North Alabama and Livingston (now West Alabama).
The Monday Morning Quarterback Club Team Luncheon, presented by Sheraton Birmingham, is a marquee event during bowl week in January. It will be held at noon CT on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Sheraton Birmingham Ballroom. Jack Crowe finished his career at Jacksonville State as the second winningest coach in the program’s history with a 87-57 record during his 13 years as head coach. He posted 10 straight winning seasons, which is a school record, and posted the best winning percentage in the Ohio Valley Conference among conference games during his tenure.
The BBVA Compass Bowl annually recognizes current or former Birmingham residents who have distinguished themselves in their careers. Former honorees include Pat Sullivan (2006), Johnny Musso (2007), Mike Kolen (2008), Bobby Humphrey (2009), Bobby Bowden (2010) and Al Del Greco (2011).
The seventh edition of the BBVA Compass Bowl will match teams from the BIG EAST Conference (Pittsburgh) against the Southeastern Conference (Ole Miss). Players and coaches from both teams will attend the Monday Morning Quarterback Club Team Luncheon. The bowl game will be played Saturday, Jan. 5, 2012, at noon at historic Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala., and will be aired nationally on ESPN and ESPN Radio.
